A Warning against Herod

Luke 13:31-33

31 At that time some Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Leave this place and go somewhere else. Herod wants to kill you.”

32 He replied, “Go tell that fox, ‘I will drive out demons and heal people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.’

33 In any case, I must keep going today and tomorrow and the next day—for surely no prophet can die outside Jerusalem!

We ignore what we already know with a deep-seated, intuitive knowledge-that no love or friendship, no intimate embrace or tender kiss, no community, commune or collective, no man or woman, will ever be able to satisfy our desire to be released from our lonely condition.

Jesus was not worried about Herod because Jesus was only concerned with honoring the Father. The reason we are so concerned about others and their opinions is because the shackles of other’s approval bind us. God wants to set you free from those today. Care more about what God thinks than anybody else.

    People cannot bestow worth on us, so why do we let the approval of other people be our idol? God will secure our insecurity.

    Jesus was not distracted by the words or actions of others. He simply kept going, doing the will of his heavenly father. May that same force and motive drive me.
